International Economic Integration Newsletter – May 2026

May 2026 witnessed a number of notable developments in Vietnam’s international economic integration process, reflecting both shifts in the global economic landscape and continued policy improvements at the domestic level.

On the international front, global trade continued to be influenced by competition among major economies. Key developments included the United States–China Summit in Beijing, the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Russia and China, and new developments at the WTO, as well as in the United States and the European Union regarding fisheries subsidies, economic sanctions, and the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Domestically, Vietnam faced several significant trade-related issues, including the United States’ Section 301 investigation concerning intellectual property matters and the possibility of future investigations relating to seafood trade. At the same time, Vietnam continued to strengthen its integration capacity through the establishment of the Government Negotiation Delegation on International Economic and Trade Affairs, the issuance of regulations implementing the Vietnam–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), further development of the legal framework for the carbon market, the publication of the PCI 2025 rankings, and the issuance of the first ATA Carnet to a Vietnamese enterprise.
